CarMax Tacky Light Run Announces Plans for a Brighter, Bolder Course and an Annual Route Shake-Up

Small directional change will allow participants to see new decor

RICHMOND, VA – The CarMax Tacky Light Run has provided a unique vantage point on the tacky light displays in the Walton Park neighborhood of Chesterfield County, Virginia since 2012. Due to the overwhelming enthusiasm from residents, Sports Backers, the event organizer, will slightly alter the 2024 route to include a new jaw-dropping display, Coralview Road. Over the past eleven years, the over-the-top decorations throughout the neighborhood, which have captured the spirit of the event, have increased ten-fold and Sports Backers saw an opportunity to switch things up and enhance the participant experience by incorporating this festive hotspot into the course.

The increased enthusiasm can largely be credited to the extravagant and elaborate holiday light displays that have gained Dawnridge Court its fame—affectionately dubbed “Christmas Court”. For the 2024 edition, right around the 2.5-mile mark, runners and walkers will take a left onto Coralview Road, skipping the usual route onto Dawnridge Court. Participants can look forward to a synchronized light show timed to a holiday radio station and lights strung from house to house will expand the entire street. This year, “Christmas on Coralview” gets its time to shine. Dawnridge will reclaim its course stardom in 2025, with Sports Backers planning to alternate between these two legendary streets every year.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have the Walton Park community embrace the CarMax Tacky Light Run with such passion,” says Molly Johnson, Event Director for the CarMax Tacky Light Run. “Dawnridge Court has been a crowd favorite, bringing holiday spirit to life like no other. This year, Coralview gets its moment in the spotlight, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Our deepest thanks to Dawnridge for being the backbone of the run’s charm, and we’re excited to return to them in 2025.”

As a nod to 12 years of tackiness, this year’s participant gear and decor will embrace the theme of “12 Years of Tacky”! Participants can will receive a commemorative ornament finisher medal and their choice of either a knit hat or a t-shirt. Registration is open and prices will increase on October 1, so don’t miss your chance to secure your spot in the most spirited run of the season.
