Floyd Ave. will be Richmond's first 20mph zone!
Last night Richmond City Council passed Ordinance 2015-138, which will lower the maximum speed limit on Floyd Ave from 25mph to 20mph, Richmond’s first such street optimized for lower speed vehicles in order to make riding and walking safer and more comfortable for everyone. The change will take effect at the end of March, 2016 once the physical construction of the Floyd Ave Bike Walk Street project is completed! And a little birdy whispered to us that construction on that project will start next month, October 2015!
But the good news doesn’t stop there. City Council also adopted Ordinance 2015-151 which establishes minimum bike parking requirements for multi-unit dwellings and parking decks! Hip, hip, hooray for having a place to park your bike!
