Fitness Warrior Mentor Spotlight: Molly McFadden

By Anne Crenshaw

To be a Fitness Warrior you have to have a passion for helping others and be willing to dedicate the time to learn the skills it takes to constantly improve. A great way to gain top-notch training skills is to learn valuable lessons from past Warrior graduates. We call these hard working “heroes” our Warrior mentors. Molly McFadden is a Fitness Warrior from our first class that has mentored some of our recent Warriors into great fitness instructors! Check out what she has to say about the program and what it was like being a mentor!

Why did you want to be a mentor for the Fitness Warriors program?

I was a warrior in the first class and felt I could share my knowledge with new Warriors.

What is your favorite group exercise modality?

I really enjoy yoga, weight lifting, and working out with kids.

Tell us about a time that made you proud to be a Fitness Warriors mentor.

The most recent was over the summer when I got to volunteer at Fairfield Elementary. I came a little early and got to see what the kids were working on in the camp, then I did kickboxing and yoga with them. They liked the yoga so much that we did it again the next day. That experience and those kids really impacted me and made me think about things, especially since I am a teacher.

What advice would you give to people just starting their fitness journey?

It’s okay to not have all the answers, but be open to trying and learning new things.

Who are some people that have influenced you in this field?

Ricky Martin and Jacki Quinlin are big influences. Some others that influenced me are the people at Project Yoga Richmond and my yoga teacher from college, Candy Evans. All of my teachers have been very knowledgeable and liked to have fun. The teachers at my work, Jennifer Swartz and Anne Trask, have also had an impact on me.

How can people get in contact with you?

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I think this is a great program with benefits for the Warriors and the Richmond community. Moving forward, we should work together to find solutions to address the nutrition needs in these undeserved areas.

As you can see, our mentors truly care about the Warriors they are supporting and the work that is being done through the Warriors program. Check out our FREE weekly fitness warrior workout classes here!
