Area Companies Gearing Up for Corporate 4-Miler

Companies from all over RVA, including some of the region’s biggest like Capital One, are eagerly awaiting the Connects Federal Credit Union Corporate 4-Miler on June 9.

In 2016, Capital One was again recognized as one of Fortune’s ‘100 Best Companies to Work For,’ marking the eighth time they have received the recognition. Although the company has a national reach, Capital One stays connected to its roots in Richmond, where it was founded, through regular participation in community events. Employee engagement is an important part of the company culture, and taking part in this week’s Connects Federal Credit Union Corporate 4-Miler is just one way they accomplish that.

“As a company founded here in Richmond and the region’s largest private employer, we are committed to engaging in community-focused initiatives like the Corporate 4-Miler that help to build the vibrancy and brand of the Greater Richmond region,” said Buck Stinson, the Senior Vice President of the Small Business Card division of Capital One.

The seventh-annual running of the Corporate 4-Miler is set for Thursday, June 9, at Innsbrook Office Park. The four-mile corporate run/walk is a perfect opportunity for employers to promote the message of employee health and wellness in a fun setting, with a post-race ‘office party’ taking place immediately after the race.

Stinson, who has participated in other notable Sports Backers events like the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k and the Anthem Richmond Marathon, feels the Corporate 4-Miler offers a different environment that is more focused on bringing together the brands that form Richmond’s corporate landscape.

“It’s part race, part networking and a whole bunch of fun all mixed together,” Stinson said to describe the event.

Stinson is far from the only Capital One representative who will be racing, networking and having fun on June 9 — Capital One has over 1,000 associates participating in this year’s Corporate 4-Miler, which nearly doubles its participation numbers from 2015. “We were blown away by the level of interest and enthusiasm for the 2016 Corporate 4-Miler,” Stinson said.

Staying active is part of the workplace culture at Capital One, and employees utilize features like an on-site fitness center, sports fields, bike-share stations, and a network of trails surrounding their offices. Participating in events like the Corporate 4-Miler offers another way for the organization to support healthy and active lifestyle for its employees.

Stinson says the company is always happy to engage in the local Richmond community and participate in a fun and active event, where employees can interact with each other as well as those from companies around the region. “Our people take great pride in the work they do and in the company,” Stinson said. “When opportunities come up to show that pride and to engage in our local community, we get a tremendous response…and of course, there’s always the funky cool team t-shirts!”

The Connects Federal Credit Union Corporate 4-Miler is Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m., starting at the Innsbrook Office Park.
