Applications due March 21 for the Bike Walk RVA Academy: Henrico

We’ve spent the last month hosting Bike Walk Talk happy hours all over Henrico County and one thing is clear: Henrico residents are chomping at the bit to get rolling.

At our Bike Walk Talks, we talked to hundreds of people who want to see more comfortable, connected places to bike and walk in Henrico County. We brainstormed what makes biking and walking feel safe and comfortable, identified the places people want to get to on foot or by bike, and even talked about some of the infrastructure improvements that would make it happen.

The Bike Walk RVA Academy is a program of the Sports Backers designed to develop passionate advocates into effective on-the-ground leaders in the movement for safer walking and biking infrastructure.

Over the course of 8 weeks, we will empower you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to effectively advocate for new and high-impact bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects in your neighborhood—projects that allow everyone, regardless of age or ability, to get where they need to go on foot or by bike. In addition to new knowledge and tools, you will become part of a close-knit community of advocates who share the vision of a comfortable, connected Henrico County. And you’ll have a lot of fun, too!

The Bike Walk RVA Academy kicks off on April 13 and will finish with a graduation ceremony on June 9 (the full schedule is posted on the webpage). Though the program is free, acceptance to the Academy is competitive.

People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
