Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k Adds 'Virtual 10k' Option for Event
RICHMOND, VA – The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger is adding a new ‘Virtual 10k’ option, allowing participants to take part in the March 28 race even if they are unable to toe the starting line on race day in Richmond.
Participants who have to miss out on the 10k can still be part of the fun of one of Richmond’s favorite community events by registering for the Virtual 10k and completing a 6.2 mile walk or run on their own. Virtual 10k participants will still be able to receive the event t-shirt, bib number, bag, and the official finisher medal, as well as a Virtual Badge to share on social media.
How it works:
- Register online by 10 a.m. on March 28, 2020
- Run or walk 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) between March 28 – April 30 anywhere you would like
- Use a tracking method (GPS device/watch, tracking website or app, or treadmill reading) to be able to show us your run
- Send us your result (details to come)
Taking part in the Virtual 10k will count towards Six Point Two Crew rankings and streaks that participants may be in danger of ending due to schedule conflicts or out-of-town travel. The Six Point Two Crew is the 10k legacy program created in 2019 to recognize long-time 10k participants.
“Our mission at Sports Backers is to encourage active living on a regular basis, and the Virtual 10k is another way to create opportunities for people to celebrate the 10k and enjoy being active,” said Meghan Keogh, event director of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k for Sports Backers. “This will provide a good way for people to stay engaged with the 10k even if they can’t take part in person on March 28.”
10k Referral Program Offers Increased Rewards and Incentives
The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k has increased its Referral Rewards Program for 2020. The Referral Program is the best way to share the fun of race day and encourage others to join in one of Richmond’s favorite community events while earning rewards for those efforts at the same time. Registered race participants can now earn a $25 refund of the registration fee (up from $10) by referring five friends to sign up and join them on race day. Any participant that gets a total of 10 friends to register will also earn their choice of a Run RVA Shirt from the Sports Backers merchandise store (up to a $30 value).
All registered participants received a unique referral link in their confirmation email and it was also included in the February 26 participant newsletter. To qualify for the rewards program, they simply need to share their unique link with friends, family, coworkers, or running group members through email, social media, or text message.
Registration is still open for the 2020 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger and the Virginia529 Kids Run, both taking place on March 28. More information is available at www.sportsbackers.org.
