Sports Backers, Ragnar Announce Partnership for Ragnar Trail Richmond-VA Relay

Sports Backers is excited to announce a new partnership with Ragnar Trail Relays to combine the Tent to Trail Relay with Ragnar to form Ragnar Trail Richmond – VA (RVA) presented by Salomon, to be held in Pocahontas State Park on April 29-30, 2016.

Ragnar offers the largest overnight running relay series in the United States, and Ragnar Trail RVA will become the first Ragnar trail relay in Virginia. During the overnight relay, teams of eight will have each team member run three selected trail loops in the park, starting and finishing at Ragnar Village. Each participant will individually run approximately 16 miles while the entire team will run approximately 128 miles during the course of the event. True trail warriors also have the option to run on a team of four with every member running each of the three trails twice.

With Ragnar’s goal of visiting inspiring and scenic destinations around the country, Pocahontas State Park is a perfect venue for the trail relay. Park amenities include fishing, canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, and additional trails that event participants can take advantage of when not running. The Ragnar Village campground and home base area will also offer opportunities for yoga, food vendors, beer, a bonfire, and live music throughout the two days of the relay.

“This unique and exciting event will be a great opportunity to celebrate our outdoor lifestyle and work towards our goal of making our community more active,” said Jon Lugbill, Executive Director of Sports Backers. “Ragnar’s national reach will help bring more people to Chesterfield County and especially Pocahontas State Park, to show off the beautiful scenery and great trail system the park has to offer.”

Ragnar Trail RVA will be the 12th Ragnar Trail event launched since the inception of the trail race series in 2013. Registration opens July 9 and is available at www.sportsbackers.org or http://www.ragnartrail.com/locations/richmond_va.
