Sports Backers Announce 'Uncorked Half' Running Event at New Kent Winery
Sports Backers today announced a new half marathon event, the Uncorked Half, which will take place at New Kent Winery on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This marks the first time Sports Backers has partnered with a winery for an event, and registration is now open at www.sportsbackers.org. To help launch the new race, New Kent Winery will host a kick-off event tonight at 5:00pm featuring wine, yoga, on-site registration, and a chance to enter to win a Sip and Savor VIP Brunch Package for the race
“We are very excited to announce the Uncorked Half and to partner with New Kent Winery for this great new event,” said Megan Schultz, event director for Sports Backers. “Our goal is to celebrate active lifestyles, and we always strive to provide our event participants with an authentic and unique experience from start to finish. We’ll certainly be able to do that with the Uncorked Half by hosting it at a venue like New Kent Winery.”
The Uncorked Half course will lead runners along gently rolling hills through Virginia countryside. As they make their way along the shaded route, they’ll experience wine-themed water stops that promise to help them pick up their pace as they head towards the finish line and post-race celebration. A bucolic, tree-lined drive will lead participants through the final stage of the half marathon before reaching the finish. Participants will be treated to plenty of pampering during a day marked by a scenic course and well-earned relaxation at the winery.
“New Kent Winery looks forward to hosting the Uncorked Half and all the participants on race day,” said Joe Dombroski, owner of New Kent Winery. “We aim to offer classic hospitality with a charming personal touch, and we are confident that this collaboration with Sports Backers will lead to a memorable experience for all participants and winery visitors.”
All participants will receive a complimentary glass of wine from the award-winning selections available at New Kent Winery, a finisher medal that doubles as a wine stopper, a stemless wine glass, and a technical race shirt. Post-race massages will also be available to participants. There are also options for additional add-ons including the Sip and Savor VIP Brunch Package at the winery as well as a virtual training team leading up to the race.
The Keep It Moving community fitness initiative will serve as the official charity partner of the Uncorked Half. Keep It Moving is a program of Sports Backers that works to break down barriers and make physical activity accessible to all corners of the Richmond region, particularly underserved communities that face disproportionate rates of chronic disease. During the Uncorked Half registration process, participants will have the opportunity to donate to Keep It Moving’s income-based training programs that provide daily activity opportunities for people of all ages to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
Registration for the May 6, 2017, Uncorked Half is now open at www.sportsbackers.org.
