Second-annual Walmart Biz Bowl set for Thursday, Sept. 26
RICHMOND, VA – Sports Backers recently announced the second annual Walmart Biz Bowl to take place on Thursday, September 26, at the River City Sportsplex in Chesterfield County. The corporate-themed challenge offers companies from around the Richmond region the opportunity to enter teams and compete against each other in a variety of sports, activities, and fitness challenges during the field-day style event.
The event is open to all businesses in the Richmond region. The companies will compete based on the total number of employees they have in Richmond, with categories of ‘Small Business’ (50 employees or less), ‘Medium Business’ (51 – 249 employees) and ‘Large Business’ (more than 250 employees). Scoring will vary depending on the sport or activity, with competitive team and individual events as well as participatory activities such as yoga and a one-mile trail loop for walking and running.
Participants can choose from 16 scored events happening throughout the day. Competition-based events, such as dodgeball, tug of war, and tricycle races offer teams the opportunity to earn points by winning, while participation-based events such as yoga allow teams to earn points through participation. Employees, friends, and family members can compete on teams. Teammates can compete in multiple events and there is no limit to the number of team members participating in a single event, with the exception of bracketed events.
“We’re looking forward to another great event and are excited to have participants from businesses all across Richmond showing off their skills,” said Meghan Keogh, event director for Sports Backers. “Sports Backers is committed to building healthy communities, and the Walmart Biz Bowl is an innovative way to encourage and celebrate active workplaces,”
Walmart Biz Bowl gives employees from entry level to CEO a chance to mingle in a relaxed, fun environment outside of work as well as a chance to network with the other participating companies. The games also provide an opportunity for all employees to compete on equal footing as they work together to achieve success.
Feed More will serve as the official event charity of the Walmart Biz Bowl. As Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization, Feed More collects, prepares, and distributes food to neighbors in need. Biz Bowl participants and teams will have a variety of ways to support Feed More’s mission, including during event registration, through food drives ahead of the event, and through volunteer opportunities with Feed More.
