Patrick Henry Half Marathon Runs Through Ashland on August 27
RICHMOND, VA – More than 1,000 runners will be on hand for the 10th annual Patrick Henry Half Marathon, to be run on Saturday, August 27, beginning at 7:00a.m. Online registration closes August 24, but walk-up registration will be available on Friday, August 26 during packet pick-up from 3:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at the Blackwell Center at Randolph-Macon College. The cost for walk-up registration is $60 for Richmond Road Runners Club members and $65 for non-members.
This year’s Patrick Henry Half Marathon has been designated as a Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Half-Marathon State Championship Race, which brings added benefits for runners for race status, recognition, and awards for top finishers.
Organized as a partnership between Sports Backers and the Richmond Road Runners Club and celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Patrick Henry Half Marathon is named after Hanover County’s famous Colonial-era patriot, who proclaimed the Revolutionary War’s rallying cry, “Give me liberty or give me death.” The 13.1-mile race begins at 7:00a.m. and the race route covers roads that Henry traveled during his lifetime. Runners will race over a rolling course that passes Hanover County’s scenic farms, woodlands, and the town of Ashland’s quaint railroad district before looping back to finish on the beautiful campus of Randolph-Macon. With a strict three-hour time limit in place, organizers expect to conclude all competitive and post-race festival activities by 11:00a.m. A course map can be found at http://www.sportsbackers.org/events/patrick-henry-half-marathon/course-map/.
There is no walk-up registration available on race day. Pre-registered racers may also pick up their packet on race day at the start/finish area at the corner of North Center Street and Henry Clay Road from 5:30a.m.-6:45a.m.
