Governor Northam to be featured guest at Movement Makers Active Living Summit

Governor Ralph Northam will serve as the keynote speaker at the Active RVA Awards presented by Cigna on March 1 to help highlight and recognize area organizations that promote a culture of physical activity and create active living opportunities on a daily basis. The Active RVA Awards are part of the day-long Movement Makers Active Living Summit taking place at the Virginia Historical Society.

“As Governor, one of my goals is to promote healthy communities across the Commonwealth, and physical activity is an important part of individual and community health,” said Governor Northam. “I look forward to taking part in the Active RVA Awards and celebrating the work being done to make Virginia a healthy and vibrant place to live and work.”

Created in 2013, the Active RVA Certification and Awards program recognizes the Richmond region’s exceptional employers, schools, and early childhood education providers that are implementing innovative programs to promote physical activity. Hundreds of organizations have earned Active RVA Certification for their embrace of active living, and all groups certified for 2017-18 will be recognized at the awards ceremony. The Active RVA Awards are part of the Movement Makers Active Living Summit, which brings together individuals and organizations that are part of the active living movement to share best practices on making physical activity a priority in communities.

“There is great work being done every day around Richmond to increase opportunities for active living for people of all ages, and the Movement Makers Summit and Active RVA Awards are a perfect way to celebrate those efforts,” said Jon Lugbill, Executive Director of Sports Backers. “We are very excited to welcome Governor Northam as a featured guest at the awards to share his message on the important role of health and physical activity in our schools, workplaces, and early childhood education centers.”
