Call Federal Marathon Jr. Set for Oct. 29, Registration Open Now
The fifth-annual Call Federal Marathon Jr. will take place on Saturday, October 29, at Byrd Park, and registration is now open for the event. This kids-only running event, winner of Running USA’s ‘Youth Running Event of the Year’ in 2014, will again be held at Byrd Park and will offer two different distance options: a 0.5-mile course for children ages four to seven, and a 1-mile course for children 12 and under.
“Call Federal is proud to be part of Marathon Jr. again this year. We love being part of something that helps children set and reach their goals,” said Roger Ball, Call Federal’s CEO/President. “This is parallel to our mission to help Richmond families meet their financial goals.”
All participating children will receive a special Call Federal Marathon Jr. T-shirt, a finisher medal, and post-race food. The race festival, starting at 10:00am and running until 2:00pm, will feature a variety of activities and interactive games, including a photo booth, face painter, arts and crafts, local mascots, and other exciting activities for participants and families. Participants are also encouraged to dress up and take part in the costume contest, with prizes going to the top costumes.
The 0.5-mile distance will begin at 12:00pm, and the 1-miler at 12:15pm. Although it will be held two weeks prior, the Call Federal Marathon Jr. is part of the Anthem Richmond Marathon weekend, which includes the full marathon, the American Family Fitness Half Marathon, and the VCU Health 8k.
Kids Run RVA will serve as the official event charity of the Call Federal Marathon Jr. Kids Run RVA is an initiative of Sports Backers that reaches thousands of young people across the Richmond region and gets them moving on a regular basis. With programs for all ages, Kids Run RVA has a particular emphasis on outreach to under-served neighborhoods, where opportunities for physical activity are often limited. Establishing healthy habits early in life is critical to the long-term physical, emotional, and social development of all youth.
Kids Run RVA grants funds to schools in order to establish run/walk clubs throughout the Richmond region, which could include support to help schools put on their own running events as well as need-based support to help cover expenses to attend events like the Call Federal Marathon Jr.
