Henrico County: vote YES for physical activity

This election day, Henrico County voters have a huge opportunity to vote YES for increased access to physical activity and recreation in Henrico’s growing park system. A bond referendum package for parks projects would include an $87.1 million investment over 6 years, without an increase in the tax rate.

Among the parks and facilities to be improved are:IMG_2381

  • School athletic improvements
  • Tuckahoe Park
  • Cheswick Park
  • Tuckahoe Creek Park
  • Dorey Park
  • Deep Run Park
  • Three Lakes Nature Center Park

The referendum package also includes two new parks:

  • Greenwood Park (phase 2) near Greenwood Elementary School
  • Taylor Farm Park near the airport

These projects include the construction of new parks and improvements to existing parks & recreation facilities like athletic fields, trails, and playgrounds. This investment in infrastructure that allows people of all ages and abilities to get outside and be active is crucial to the future of Henrico County as a healthy, vibrant place to live.

Between this investment in expanding and improving the park system and Henrico’s pledge to allocate $12.5 million to sidewalks and other non-motorized connectivity projects over the next five years, Henrico County has demonstrated a strong commitment to the health of its residents for years to come.

In addition to parks and recreation, four other categories — schools, libraries, fire stations and facilities, and road projects — will appear on your ballot as separate packages. You can see a detailed list of the proposed projects in each category here.

We commend the leaders of Henrico County for taking the initiative to make this investment in physical activity for Henrico’s residents, and encourage you to vote YES on the bond referendum this November.
