Since its start in 1992, the Sports Backers/Richmond Times-Dispatch program awarded over $1,400,000 in scholarships to over 600 outstanding high school student-athlete seniors in recognition of their hard work both on the field and in the classroom. The region’s top scholar-athletes were announced each month in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and twenty finalists were selected to receive scholarships at the Awards Dinner at the end of each school year. The dinner featured a guest speaker, followed by the recognition of all finalists, the Raymond D. Patterson and Cheryl Oliver Memorial Scholarship recipients, Williams Mullen Impact Award Winner, and Scholar Athlete Winners and Runners Up.
