Fitness Warriors
The Sports Backers Fitness Warriors program is all about turning passion for fitness into action! We train local residents with talent and energy to become top-notch fitness instructors, bringing movement and motivation to Richmond’s communities that need it most. After completing their training, our Warriors lead free weekly fitness classes throughout the region.

After completing their training, our Warriors go on to offer free weekly fitness classes, making health and wellness more accessible to those who need it most.

About Fitness Warriors

With support from the Richmond City Health District, the Sports Backers Fitness Warriors program trains aspiring fitness instructors. Fitness Warriors are selected for their skills and leadership, and we train them up to be certified group exercise teachers. Throughout the program, Warriors meet as a class 1-2 times/month on the weekends and get dedicated training and support from our Warrior Captains.
- We teach the basics of fitness instruction and coaching.
- Help to grow each Warrior’s leadership skills.
- Introduce multiple exercise class styles.
- Create expertise in the fundamentals of teaching cardio, strength, and flexibility.

Fitness Warriors are known for bringing the energy and excitement of fitness to community events—whether it’s a large-scale celebration like Venture Richmond’s 2nd Street Festival or a smaller gathering in a church basement. If you have an upcoming community event and would like a Warrior to participate, we’d love to hear from you!

Host Free classes
We collaborate with schools, community centers, churches, senior centers, health clinics, and other local organizations to provide FREE weekly fitness classes across the Richmond region. Our partners host one of our trained Warriors, creating new opportunities for their communities to stay active and prioritize well-being.
Making an Impact
Along the way, Warriors are going out and working in communities with church groups and in schools, at senior residences and in community centers with ongoing supportive site visits from their Captains. By teaching these weekly classes around Richmond, Warriors get to hone their skills AND provide an important resource to Richmonders who are trying to stay healthy.
