What happens if the half or 5k sells out?
When the half or 5k reaches full capacity, registration for that event will close and a Waiting List will open. Waiting List members will become notified of open spots as they become available. Once notified, you will have 24 hours to claim your spot and complete registration. The Waiting List will only be available through February 21 (while deferrals are still allowed).
Additionally, a limited number of Charity Entries will be offered for each distance ($100 for 5k / $200 for half). Charity entries will support one of our nine event charities. Please email [email protected] if you’re interested in purchasing a charity entry.
How Much Does the Virginia Credit Union River City Half & 5k cost?
Through March 15: $75 full / $30 half
March 16 – October 2: $85 full / $35 half
October 3 – January 15: $95 full / $40 half
January 16 – March 3: $105 full / $50 half
March 4 – March 8 or Waitlist Pricing: $115 full / $60 half
The Virginia Credit Union River City Half is limited to the first 2,500 registrants. The River City 5k is limited to the first 1,000 registrants. The price schedule is as shown. If an event reaches capacity, waitlist entries will be sold at the highest price shown. Don’t wait—register today!

What are the age requirements for each race?
To participant in the Virginia Credit Union River City Half, you must be at least 12 years old.
To participant in the River City 5k, you must be at least 6 years old.
Can i Make Changes to my REgistration?
Yes! In order to make changes to your registration, please follow these directions. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Do you offer a virtual event?
Yes! No matter your reason, we do offer a virtual option for the event so that you can still be a part of the Virginia Credit Union River City Half or River City 5k. Who doesn’t want gorgeous swag?!? Click here to learn more about our virtual option.
Course and Event Day
Are there Course Time Limits?
The Virginia Credit Union River City Half has a 3.5 hour time limit. The River City 5k has a 1.5 hour time limit.
Is the course Certified?
Yes, the course is certified by the USATF.
Will there be bag check?
Yes, bag check will be offered on race morning within the Post Race Festival, about a 1/2 mile walk from the start line. You are responsible for providing your own bag and you must attach the tear-off tag on your race bib to your bag. Once you have completed your race, you can return to the bag check area to pick up your bag.
Can I use a stroller or wear a baby carrier?
No, strollers and baby carriers are not permitted on course for either the half marathon or the 5k.
Where Can I park on race morning?
There is ample free parking available on the U of R campus. You will need to decide whether you prefer to park near the start line or finish festival area—they are located about 1/2 mile apart. View the Virginia Credit Union River City Half Start/Finish & Parking Map >
How Do I register as a spirit group?
To be a registered on-course spirit group, fill out this form. Additional details will be sent to registrants as we near event day!

IS there anything I can’t do?
In order to provide a safe and great race experience for all, we don’t allow pets, bicycles, strollers, or inline skates…to name a few. Read more about our Event Policies.
How can I become a sponsor or vendor?

Do you offer income-based rates?
Yes, engaging underserved populations is one of Sports Backers core values and one way we achieve this is by offering lower priced event entries to those who qualify. Please click here to learn more.
Where can I find race results?
You can find race results for the Virginia Credit Union River City Half and River City 5k by visiting our registration platform.
Are there awards?
Yes, we award Age Group Awards to the top three finishers in each age group. Age groups are required to have four or more participants to qualify for awards.
Half Marathon Age Groups: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.
5k Age Groups: 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.
Age group winners will be notified by email in late May with instructions on how to redeem their personalized award.
