Bike Walk RVA
Bike Walk RVA is Sports Backers’ program to advocate for comfortable and connected places to bike and walk for people of all ages and abilities. From signature, regional projects like the transformational Fall Line trail to neighborhood traffic calming and an expanding network of connected, protected bike lanes, our mission is to get more people biking and walking through developing advocate leaders who focus on changing our built environment to make active transportation desirable for anyone.
About Bike Walk RVA
Communities with sidewalks, bike lanes, and trails foster significantly more physical activity than those without. In 2012, Sports Backers created Bike Walk RVA to address the lack of these facilities—a regional program to support bike- and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure projects.

What We Do
- Build community and political support for a network of separated bike and pedestrian infrastructure by engaging local decision makers in our vision to connect people from where they live to where they work, play, learn, and shop
- Train grassroots leaders and advocates through our Bike Walk RVA Academy and empower bike enthusiasts to program a vibrant bike culture, such as RVA Bike Month
- Demonstrate the potential of our urban areas through tactical urbanism approaches
- Support city, state, and national initiatives such as the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project
Bike Walk RVA Academy
The Bike Walk RVA Academy is our program designed to develop Richmond region residents into grassroots leaders in their communities for better walking and biking infrastructure such as paved trails, protected bike lanes, and sidewalks that allows people of all ages and abilities to get where they need to go on foot or by bike.

RVA Bike Month
Every May, we partner with local volunteers, bike shops, businesses, and other organizations to organize a full month of fun biking-related events that encourage everyone from first-time bike riders to seasoned cyclists to get out and ride.
RVA Bike Ped Counts
Since 2014, we’ve counted people biking and walking in Richmond every May and September to demonstrate the impact of protected bike infrastructure.

Voter Education
Voters have a right to be informed about candidates’ positions on issues. We are committed to working with candidates across the political spectrum to make our region’s roads safer and our communities healthier.
