To build upon last year's successful conference, our goal is to continue to combat excess weight gain in children. The next step will be to build community support for the roles individuals, community organizations, and government play in combating this epidemic. “Save Our Kids: The Obesity Crisis Conference,” will challenge individuals, community organizations, and governments to begin working immediately to wipe out childhood obesity in central Virginia.

The Sports Backers youth outreach programs include a free incentive-based youth fitness program, Fit For Life, for school children and a scholarship program that recognizes and rewards outstanding athletic and academic achievement with scholarship funds and an annual awards dinner. These youth programs, combined with the other activities of the organization, strengthen the Richmond economy, provide health benefits to participants, and make the region a more desirable place to live.
