Event Description
A running festival on the scenic grounds and grassy hills of Maymont.

Date and Time
Friday & Saturday, September 24-25, 2010

  • Elementary School 1 Miler on Friday, Sept. 24 - 5:30 p.m.
  • Open 5k on Friday, Sept. 24 - 6 p.m
  • 8 Miler on Saturday, Sept. 25 - 7 a.m.
  • Middle School 3k on Saturday, Sept. 25 - 9 a.m.

Every Runner Receives...
Every runner in an open event receives an official race t-shirt (8 miler registrants receive a technical race shirt) and is admitted to a special post-race celebration with plenty of free food, drink and music.

On-line registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on September 22.

Walk up registration will take place on Friday, September 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Maymont. There is no walk up registration on Saturday, September 25.

Distances
Participants may choose between an 5k on Friday and an 8 Miler on Saturday. There is a 1 mile run for Elementary School students, a 3k for Middle School students and a 5k for High School students.

James River Loop 8 Miler
The 8 Mile trail run starts and finishes on the grounds of Maymont. The unique course features the Buttermilk and North trails as the loop through the James River Park. The 8 Miler utilizes wave starts in order to control volume on the trails, so you will be asked to indicate your predicted time when you register. All 8 Miler registrants will receive a technical race shirt! For a map and written description of this one-of-a-kind course, click here.

Packet Pick Up
T-shirt and packet pick up will be available at Maymont near the Hampton Street entrance on Friday, September 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, September 25 beginning at 6 a.m.

A photo ID is required to pick up your race packet. You may pick up a race packet for another pre-registered runner, provided you have a copy of their photo ID.

Lining up at the Start
All participants are responsible for being at the start of their race on time and should plan on being at the start line 10 minutes early.

Results
Results will be posted on site at Maymont.  In addition, they will be posted on the www.sportsbackers.org website each evening after the conclusion of that day's events.

Course Entertainment/Fan Support
Please encourage your family and friends to come out and cheer for you during the race.  While there they can check out the many great features of Maymont.

Age Groups/Awards
Medals go to the top three finishers, male and female, in the Elementary School, Middle School, open 5k and 8 Miler races and to the top three in all age groups, male and female, in the 5k and 8 Miler. Age groups in the 5k and 8 Miler are: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & up.

Important Information

  • Entry fees are non-refundable and entries are non-transferable, no exceptions.

  • Every participant is given a timing chip at packet pick up. Chips must be returned after the race or you will be assessed a $30 charge.

  • A photo ID is required to pick up your race packet. You may pick up a race packet for another pre-registered runner, provided you have a copy of their photo ID.

  • Maymont does not allow dogs on their property.

Race Photos
Brightroom Photography will be on-site for Saturday's races and photographing all event participants. Visit their website the week after the event to look for your photo.
