What: James River Scramble 10k

When:

Saturday, May 16, 9:00 a.m.*

*Runners will be started in 5 waves of up to 250, based on each participant's estimated finish time. The wave breakdowns will be determined once registration is closed.

All participants must check in prior to race, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Where: Race starts and finishes on Brown's Island.

Directions:  Take I-95 Exit 74-A onto the Downtown Expressway.  Take first exit on Canal Street heading West.  Make a left onto 5th Street South and take it to the riverfront.

Parking update: Due to construction of the new MeadWestvaco headquarters on the site of the former Federal Reserve parking lot, the recommended parking location is in the deck of the "Riverside on the James" complex. To access the deck, come south on 10th street and cross the vehicle bridge across the canal into the complex. There is a $5 charge for the deck.

Please note that Tredegar Street between 5th & 7th Streets is closed due to construction. Please do not come down 5th Street to Tredegar Street as access is limited and there is nowhere to make a U-turn. You will only cause traffic backups.

The race is divided into five color-coded waves, based on the predicted time you indicated when you registered. The wave starts are as follows:

The start is on Brown's Island. Go under the Manchester Bridge and head east on the canal walk to 14th Street. Go right and across the river on 14th Street over the Mayo Island Bridge. Make a right on the Floodwall walkway and continue up the floodwall (where the best views are of downtown and the river) and under the Manchester Bridge. Here you will have to climb a series of very steep steps on the side of the old Manchester Bridge.  The runners will go up the stairs and across the bridge over the railroad tracks to the back-side of the new SunTrust Building and go under the Lee Bridge along Riverside Drive and go up to the 22nd Street pedestrian bridge and back to the river. Continue west along the gravel road to the James River Visitors Center.  Return on a series of trails back to the "dryway". Cross the "dryway" by rock hopping across the dry river bed to Belle Isle. Go up a steep trail and along the top of Belle Isle heading east and back down a major hill and then back across the footbridge to Tredegar Street and back east to finish on Brown's Island.
