Photographers of all levels (pro to beginner) are invited to enter the Dominion Riverrock Digital Photo Contest at Dominion Riverrock, which will be held on Brown’s Island, May 15-16. There will cash prizes, including a first prize of $250, and photographers will have their winning photos appear in SBQ Magazine and on the Sports Backers OurSB website.
The contest commences at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15th, at the start of Dominion Riverrock and ends with its conclusion on Saturday, May 16th. Photographers may shoot for whatever portion of time period they deem necessary, and they may photograph any Dominion Riverrock personality, competition, activity or venue they choose.
Register online at or on-site on Brown’s Island no later than 7 p.m. on Friday, May 15.; entry is $10 in advance, $15 day of.
All photographers MUST check in with contest officials on Brown’s Island between 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16th. Failure to check in will eliminate them from prize money consideration. Photographers must submit their three best images as jpeg files via email by midnight, Sunday, May 17th. Late submissions will not be accepted. Email images with contact information to photocontest@sportsbackers.org. Results will be announced on Wednesday, May 20th on the Sports Backers website.
A panel of judges will be looking for the one overall image that captures the spirit of Dominion Riverrock. No more than one image per photographer will be eligible for prize money.
All photographers who can email jpeg-format photos to the contest judges may enter. Photographers will be responsible for providing their own equipment. Organizers will not be responsible for incomplete, late or damaged submissions. All images submitted for the contest become the property of the Sports Backers.
Prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st -- $250 cash, 2nd -- $100 cash, 3rd -- $50 cash
A dramatic array of outdoor sports will be on display as part of Dominion Riverrock on Friday and Saturday, May 15 & 16 at Brown’s Island in downtown Richmond. Adding to the fun will be the free interactive events, free live band performances, including a free concert by Rusted Root, on Friday, May 15th at 7 p.m. Interactive events include: Riverside Outfitters Adventure Tree Climbing; Riverside Outfitters Pipeline Rapid Rafting and Sports Backers Sit-on-top Kayak Corral.
Dominion Riverrock is a two-day celebration of Richmond’s unique river culture found in and around the James River and the James River Park. Riverrock combines entertainment, sports competitions, urban adventures and interactive events that highlight individual and group efforts for environmental stewardship.
Friday’s competitions start at 6 p.m. with the Filthy 5k Mud Run. There will also be mountain bike acrobatic exhibitions and competitions led by professional mountain biker Jeff Lenoski, as well as Big Air Dog competitions.
Saturday’s competitions start on Brown’s Island with the popular James River Scramble trail run to be followed at 11 a.m. by the Urban Assault mountain bike race. The Rocketts Landing Sprints Rowing Regatta will be held from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. at Rocketts Landing; and the Jammin’ on the James Boatercross whitewater canoe, kayak and raft race will take place at Hollywood Rapids at Belle Isle at 1 p.m.
All competitive, exhibition and interactive events would be considered photo-eligible.
